mr. masahiko gotoh, well known for his incredible beautiful gottsu mouthpieces, gives to every reed a special surface treatment, called g- tuning.

here were also some pre-production models that were tested in europe and overseas, and now lead to a breakthrough in the manufacturing  of modern saxophone and clarinet reeds.

the new unfiled cut is intended for those artists who love the typical jazz sound of the 50s and 60s. the reeds are very durable,  completely insensitive to all the influences of temperature, humidity and dehydration… no doubling probs on stage anymore !

strength, attack and punch are phantastic, and the tonal core is perfectly balanced. it gives very easy flageolett´s, rough multiphonics and any daynamic range you are wishing. try sigurd raschérs top tone fingerings, the work pretty easy with the foresteones even with recent horns.

the unfiled cut is really a masterpice, a new milestone in reeds building !

students and colleagues report in their own words the same: it is very exciting with the new foretones- must have my one ones! especially since the now classic filed cuts as a distinct timbre complement the contrasting total package: functional questions are resolved, and the selection is carried out solely for artistic intentions.

the greg fishman books  gave us plenty of  fun and exercises, and many homework too …

but the new hip licks is what in german slang means der knaller: a real big bang  !

fishman has set a new level of  books to learn with them the modern jazz thing and to teach it with this detailled, perfectly produced 4 cds including album !

in some german saxophone forums the hip licks are on top of books to be recommended.

friends in europe and overseas are detecting this work in the last weeks – and they just love it.

now is the time not to list the clever construction of exercises, or the high-end manufactoring, or to stress the luxuary alto & tenor cd´s in 2 speeds (!) …

greg fishman is a brillant saxophone player, and that gives to all  students many new inputs. just play the notes – your fingers will lern to run … listen to the music -you will hear new relationships between the notes, even when you will listen later on to the beloved recordins of your heroes …

it is like learning to touch the saxophone, and the music, not only to manage it.

nailing changes and a lovely touch is possible. it´s an invitation to dance, to sing , and to live.  and: it is just the new BOOK !

echt gute sachen werden lange getestet, bevor sie gelobt werden …

waren die play along hefte von greg fishman in der vergangenheit schon sehr eindrucksvoll und extrem hilfreich für studium und unterricht, übertrifft sich meister fishman nun selbst mit dem neuesten, äußerst aufwendig produzierten buch: hip licks !

einige sehr techniche beschreibungen kursieren bereits im internet, teils auf englisch, aber es ist an der zeit, das wichtigste in der musik, das fühlen (und nicht etwa  irgendein einsames gefühl)  in den mittelpunkt einer beschreibung zu stellen.

gerg fishman ist selber saxophonist. das merken alle, die seine hefte zum erlernen der jazzmusik  verwenden: es handelt sich schlicht um die besten übungen überhaupt, das instrument mit den fingern berühren zu lernen.

nicht anpacken: berühren …

nur dann kann musik so fein werden, als würden die leute tanzen, leben, singen.

der drill ist deutlich, aber genial organisiert: der wechsel von hören/horchen und selber machen gehört schon lange zum besseren ton in der didaktik,  aber hier erleben wir ein feuerwerk von ideen, und zwar in schönsten farben!

alle, auch die scheinbar leichtesten licks, sind echte musik, und keine reinen übemuster. die kombinationsmöglichkeiten sind ausgesprochen vielfältig. die von lebenden menschen eingespielte begleitung ist immer phantasievoll und individuell, es wurden keine tristen klischees abgedroschen wie in so vielen anderen, teils von computern erzeugten begleit- cds.

für die hip licks wurde: wie in echt musiziert, und dabei  in die üblichen harmonischen formeln der jazzsprache sehr behutsam eingeführt. das kann jede/r auch direkt hören denn greg fishman spielt alles selbst, und zwar echt in den jeweils 2 sehr unterschiedlichen tempi: langsam/er und schnell.

schnell ist schwer, klingt aber toll.

wer das hört, will es selber können, der magische reiz des jazz erklingt hier erstmals in einem übeheft !

so ein programm will sogar jeder mensch gerne üben- weil es so gut klingt. und selbst das reine tägliche mitspielen hilft jedem, der/die sich technisch verbessern möchte. und klingt immer gut…

auch wenn europa gerade eingefroren  ist, tut sich dennoch bewegendes !

und zwar bei den japanischen compositblättern aus bambus und kunststoff.

der neue unfiled schnitt ist da ! erste prototypen hießen noch: tokyo jazz cut, oder ähnlich. es gab auch einige vorserienmodelle, die in europa und übersee getestet wurden, und nun zu einem durchbruch in der herstellung moderner saxophon- und klarinettenblätter führten.

der neue unfiled schnitt ist für diejenigen künstler gedacht, die den typischen jazz sound der 50er und 60er jahre suchen. und zwar mit einem ausgesprochen haltbaren blatt, das absolut unempfindlich ist gegen alle einflüsse von temperaturen, feuchtigkeiten und austrocknungen im doubling.

härtegefühl, attack und punch des saxophonsounds sind einfach phantasisch, intonation und extra- effekte ( top tones, growl usw. ) ausgesprochen vokal und leicht zu realisieren. hardbopsound für alle – falls gewünscht.

der entwicklungsschritt von der vorserie zu den aktuellen blättern ist einfach zu beschreiben: will ich haben !

kollegen und schüler berichten in ihren eigenen worten dasselbe: es wird sehr spannend mit den neuen foretones.  zumal die klassischen schnitte nun als eine eigene klangfarbe kontrastierend das gesamtpaket ergänzen: funktionsfragen sind gelöst, und die auswahl erfolgt allein aus künstlerischen absichten heraus.

wobei alle künstlerinnen und künstler dankbar sind, wenn die arbeitsbedingungen stimmen: guter sound, immer gleicher sound, keine fiesen effekte durch klimabeeinflussung, lange haltbarkeit.

es gibt allerdings eine einzige einschränkung: für einen guten saxophonton müssen alle immer selber üben. am besten täglich, und auch die richtigen übungen …

aber wer anders klingt denn wie mensch selbst, wenn mensch es nicht selber macht ? …

ein sehr ehrenwerter musiker wurde 70 jahre alt… zurecht ertönen dulciane und zinken der genialen bonner orgel, falls man auf das alter abzielen wollte: es gibt sie zum glück immer noch, diese alten knacker, die viel moderner und gegenwärtiger sind als so manche jugendlichen subkulturen.

der jubilar wolfgang bretschneider ist durchaus bekannt, als musiker, theologe und pädagoge- und zwar in der ganzen welt. generationen von jüngeren menschen öffnete er die türen, und zwar alle, ohne sie daran zu hindern, jeweils ihren eigenen weg zu gehen – und das rockt.

es ist also kein wunder, wenn der alte gefährte, professor und (!!!) lauschende künstler jubelnd gefeiert wird. dies organisierte die thomas morus akademie in besonderer weise:

es war ein theologisches symposion zum thema: vom herzschlag gottes, das gegeben wurde: eine gesamtfeier ohne gegröhle, der geheimen innigkeit bachs und dem choral näher als der übliche tv- trubel.

es ertönten aber auch sehr geistreiche vorträge, *würg: vor- trä -ge ? und  musik.

ja, die vorträge behandelten aktuelles leben: jetztliche fragen,  keine huldiung verschriftlicher grußkonventionen oder blabla weil man halt da ist oder besonders gelehrt…

denn nur wenn mensch wirklich da ist, also mit allen sinnen präsent, kann das wort wirken, das gerade geprochen wird, und nicht als erstarrtes zeichen unser ohr erreicht.

stefan klöckner zeigte das wunder des gregorianischen chorals kurz, aber brisant aktuell: es war kein zufall oder unvermögen, vor ca. 1200 jahren genau so zu singen,  sondern absicht.  ein derart bewußter vorsatz würde musikerInnen heute dringend gut tun, egal, ob sie theologisches behandeln, oder vermeintlich  “nur” so musizieren …

reiner schuhenn trug vor, was alle musiker und menschen bewegen kann: ist das menschenrecht auf musikalische bildung ( bitte suchen sie mal in den EU-verordnungen nach, das ist sogar einforderbar … ) noch gewährleistet ? wenn in künftig massenhaft etablierten schulformen lediglich 3 % der schülerinnen und schüler ÜBERHAUPT im gesamten weg bis zum abschluß musikunterricht bekommen werden, könnten empfindliche naturen geneigt sein, endlich nachzudenken.

oder soll das was sie gerne hören, künftig aus dem rechner kommen ?

meinrad walter öffnete weitere türen: sein beitrag über olivier messiaen am beispiel der weihnachtsmusik vingt regards lädt ein, sich mit lust und mut und freude allen sogenannten neuen musiken zu widmen: denn die derzeit von jazzmusikern viel beachtete harmonik messiaens beruht auf beidem: tiefer spiritualität und total freier erfindungsgabe.

und sorry: das ist kein marktgängiges kantri und west, oder sörweiwel of se fittest.

es = der mensch heißt olvier messiaen ist immer noch neu. dennoch so alt, wie schwarzweißfilme aus den 20er 30er jahren …

was haben die alles bewegt und riskiert. seht sie alle !

und wenn jemand, der schon vor jahrzehnten zum priester berufen ist, sich wünscht keine disco zu hören, oder die elegante salonmusik der 30er, sondern eine vesper zu feiern, geht das schon voll ok.

da wurden nicht nur gesänge aus alter zeit gesungen, die auch heute noch sinn haben.  auch harmonien verwendet, die schon 70 oder mehr jahre alt sind – ist das neu ?

seltsam, das sopransaxophon ( die bilder zeigen die zubereitung in der edith stein kapelle der akademie ) ist vokal, weltlich, aber auch elektrisch, transduzierend verstärkt…

ach ja: elektrische instrumente gibt es auch schon seit den 1880er jahren. was ist an der verwendung ihrer nachfahren jetzt noch neu ?

vielleicht, wenn der herzschlag der moment ist, in dem schöpfung und einmaliges hören gleichzeitig sind. und das nennt man improvisation.

this is an english abstract of the blog article nicht ganz durchgebacken.

after testing a tenor gottsu 9 for app. 10 weeks with different horns and mouthpieces it´s now the time to discuss some results and meanings.

tested horns : grassi ( 3 different ones ), pierret super artiste 1953, sequoia lemon ( 2 crooks, normal and rose copper), selmer SAII, buffet crampon, 16- year old almost wrecked expression of first generation ( and only down to d ), buffet 400.

ok: i am not really happy with it.

the finish, complex dimensions-for-the- mouth-sytem  and the cool material are lovely. rails extreme symmetric and tip perfect… intonation is very good.

… but the sound.

alto players may be more lucky with their  gottsu, and it´s  special facing and table.

the tenor version gives a very sharp sound with only a few deep or dark sounding tones below f, and the reeds to play are to be found. subtone is ok, but without  that projecton loved by the listeners.

gravity and something like a sonor feeling is the theme of some other tenor pieces.

to play this wrecked horn was funny: it gave a dizzy sound but it didn´t match with everything… hehe very probably the horn´s fault.

i am going to reface it. but for just refacing a piece the price is … *beeeep

if you are an experianced player ( bigband 10 years amateur+) or pro you will be able to manage it.
